Kamala Harris' Border Visit Draws Criticism from Kari Lake and Others
Vice President Kamala Harris' recent visit to the U.S.-Mexico border has sparked criticism from various figures, including Arizona Senate candidate Kari Lake.
Lake, a staunch Trump supporter, expressed her disapproval of the visit on Fox News' "Sunday Morning Futures." She criticized Harris' brief time spent at the border, calling it a mere "20 minutes" and accusing her of prioritizing media appearances over addressing the ongoing crisis.
"I find it despicable," Lake stated. "She spent 20 minutes on the border. She's been the border czar for almost four years now, and she came down, I think, to make her friends in the mainstream media happy so that they could finally say she visited the border, spent 20 minutes staring down at her feet, standing next to the wall, and I was surprised she didn't call Joe Biden and say, ‘We did it, Joe. We destroyed America,’ because that's exactly what they're attempting to do."
Lake's criticism aligns with concerns raised by the National Border Patrol Council Vice President Art Del Cueto, who also appeared on "Sunday Morning Futures." Del Cueto highlighted the presence of criminal illegal immigrants within the U.S., citing a letter from Acting ICE Director Patrick Lechleitner to Texas Rep. Tony Gonzales. The letter reportedly states that over 425,000 criminal illegal immigrants reside in the U.S., including over 13,000 convicted of homicide and over 15,000 convicted of sexual assault.
Del Cueto expressed grave concerns about the long-term consequences of the current situation. "If we have four more years of this, I do not believe we'll ever recuperate," he warned. "It's going to be devastating, and we will not recuperate in this country for many, many decades to come."
The Biden administration has faced scrutiny over its handling of the border crisis, with critics accusing them of perpetuating the issue through lax border policies. This criticism has intensified in the lead-up to the 2024 election, with Donald Trump and his allies repeatedly targeting Harris' record as "border czar."
In response to the criticism, Harris has adopted a tougher stance on border security, calling for increased protections and a comprehensive plan to address the issue. She has also defended her recent border visit, emphasizing her commitment to finding solutions to the crisis.
