The Americans Regain the Lead at the Presidents Cup
The United States regained the lead in the Presidents Cup after winning the morning fourballs matches on Saturday in Montreal. The Americans now lead the International Team 8-6 heading into the afternoon foursomes.
After trading session sweeps over the first two days, the teams were tied 5-5. However, the Americans bounced back from their shutout on Friday and took control of the competition.
World number one Scottie Scheffler and Collin Morikawa secured the first point for the U.S. with a 2&1 victory over Adam Scott and Taylor Pendrith. Scheffler made crucial birdies on the 16th and 17th holes to seal the win.
The Internationals briefly tied the score when Kim Si-woo and Tom Kim defeated Keegan Bradley and Wyndham Clark 4&3. However, Xander Schauffele and Tony Finau put the U.S. back in front with a 3&2 win over Corey Conners and Mackenzie Hughes.
In the final match of the morning session, Patrick Cantlay and Sam Burns defeated Hideki Matsuyama and Im Sung-jae 2&1. Cantlay chipped in for eagle on the 12th hole and added three late birdies to secure the victory.
The Presidents Cup is a biennial event that pits the United States against an International Team of players from outside Europe. The Americans have won the last nine editions of the competition.
