Bayern Munich's Kompany Hopes for Kane's Recovery Ahead of Aston Villa Clash
Bayern Munich manager Vincent Kompany expressed his hope that star striker Harry Kane will recover in time for their upcoming Champions League clash against Aston Villa. Kane, who leads the Bundesliga scoring charts with 10 goals in all competitions this season, suffered a knock in Saturday's 1-1 draw with Bayer Leverkusen.
The injury occurred late in the match at the Allianz Arena, leaving Kane in visible pain as he limped off the pitch. While the extent of the injury remains unclear, Kompany remains optimistic about Kane's availability for Wednesday's crucial Champions League encounter.
"I'm not a doctor, but I hope it's nothing serious. It's still early to say. Hopefully he'll be fit for Wednesday," Kompany told Sky Sports after the game.
Bayern sporting director Max Eberl echoed Kompany's sentiments, albeit with a touch of caution. "If Harry goes off the pitch, then it's something," Eberl said. "Now I hope he's made of sturdy English wood."
CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen offered a slightly more optimistic outlook, stating, "He took a knock, but as the doctors have said, it's probably nothing serious. We'll have to look at it again tomorrow."
Despite the setback, Kompany remained positive about Bayern's overall performance against Leverkusen. "As a Bayern coach, you always want to win. But the performance was as we'd hoped. The counter-pressing was positive, we won the second balls, we created so many chances," the Belgian coach said.
"Normally in such a game, you don't create many chances, but we did. It was a top game but there are still many games to go. We just have to keep going."
Bayern currently sits atop the Champions League standings after a resounding 9-2 victory over Dinamo Zagreb in their opening match, where Kane bagged four goals. Aston Villa occupies the fourth position in the table.
