A week has passed since severe rainfall struck the northern Noto Peninsula in Ishikawa Prefecture, leading to tragic consequences. Ten fatalities have been confirmed, including bodies found in Wajima and Noto, with ongoing investigations to determine the cause of these deaths linked to the flooding.
Currently, there are still individuals unaccounted for, prompting continuous search operations that began early Saturday morning in affected regions. In Wajima's Futegawa locality, where the Tsukada River experienced significant flooding, a concerted search effort involving around 530 personnel has commenced to locate the two individuals who are still missing.
As of late Friday afternoon, approximately 456 individuals were residing in 27 designated evacuation centers across Wajima, Suzu, and Noto, as reported by the prefectural government. The disaster has disrupted essential services, leaving over 4,253 households without water, and impacting transportation, with 29 road closures across 18 routes in the area.
