Palestinian President Abbas Addresses UN General Assembly, Condemns Israeli Actions
In a powerful address to the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly, Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas placed the responsibility for the ongoing crisis in Gaza and the West Bank squarely on the shoulders of the international community. He called for Israel's suspension from the UN and demanded an end to the violence and suffering inflicted upon the Palestinian people.
Abbas, also known as Abu Mazen, emphasized the unwavering Palestinian commitment to their homeland. He declared, "Palestine is our homeland, the land of our fathers and grandfathers, and it will remain ours." He criticized the United States for its unwavering support of Israel, despite the devastating consequences of the conflict. He highlighted the vetoing of Security Council resolutions calling for a ceasefire and the continued supply of weapons to Israel, which have fueled the ongoing aggression.
Abbas also drew attention to the International Court of Justice's ruling on the Israeli occupation of Palestinian territories and the urgent need for a comprehensive ceasefire in Gaza. He condemned the ongoing Israeli military attacks and settler violence in the West Bank and stressed the need for immediate humanitarian aid in Gaza.
The Palestinian president demanded a complete Israeli withdrawal from the Gaza Strip, the cessation of forced displacement, and the return of displaced Palestinians to their homes. He emphasized the world's responsibility for the situation in Gaza and the West Bank, urging an end to the violence and the killing of innocent civilians.
Abbas condemned Israel's actions as a form of collective punishment and called for immediate international accountability for the "atrocities" committed. He concluded his address with a plea for peace and justice, stating, "Stop this crime, stop it now. Stop killing children and women. Stop the war of extermination. Stop sending weapons to Israel. This madness cannot continue.
