In East China's Jiangsu Province, Wuxi Hongqiao Hospital is under scrutiny after a radiologist's claim that the hospital falsified medical records for patients who never underwent imaging procedures, specifically CT scans. In light of these allegations, local officials reported that 15 individuals connected to the hospital, including its legal representative and director, have faced criminal coercive measures as part of the investigation.
Zhu Chenggang, the radiologist who brought attention to this potential fraud, noted that the hospital records indicated diagnoses based on imaging examinations that were never performed. He highlighted that there were no CT scans associated with these patient records, contradicting the recorded diagnoses. Following the investigation, Wuxi's Healthcare Security Bureau declared that the hospital would be removed from the list of designated health insurance facilities, and a criminal case has been registered.
The investigation revealed additional irregularities, such as patients being recorded as having undergone an MRI scan just one minute after a previous one, which is unusually quick given that such scans typically require a minimum of 10-15 minutes. As a result of these findings, the hospital has been closed, and authorities are moving forward with legal action related to the fraudulent practices unearthed.
