A Stealthy Addition to the Fleet
China's state broadcaster has confirmed the existence of a new type of warplane tested on the Liaoning, the country's first aircraft carrier. This new aircraft is speculated to be the long-awaited J-35, China's next-generation carrier-borne stealth fighter jet.
The confirmation comes from Zhang Naigang, a member of the aviation support branch on the Liaoning, who piloted the first J-15 carrier-borne fighter jet in 2012. He flew the new warplane this year, describing it as "very beautiful" and reminiscent of the J-15's first flight.
the Liaoning, Shandong, and Fujian. This significantly boosts the capabilities of Chinese aircraft carriers.
While details about the new warplane remain scarce, photos have emerged of a full-scale model of a J-35 stealth fighter jet wrapped in waterproof cloth, conducting flight deck dispatch tests on the Liaoning. Analysis suggests the J-35 surpasses its US counterpart, the F-35, and complements the capabilities of the J-15.
The CCTV report also offered a glimpse into the interior of the Fujian aircraft carrier, showcasing the training of crew members in preparation for aircraft landing and takeoff tests. These tests are eagerly anticipated by military enthusiasts, as the Fujian has been undergoing multiple voyage tests since May 1.
The development of the J-35 marks a significant step forward for China's naval aviation capabilities. This new stealth fighter jet, alongside the J-15, will enhance the operational effectiveness of Chinese aircraft carriers and contribute to the country's growing military strength.
