Customs officials at Beijing Daxing International Airport have recently intercepted a shipment containing 96 termite queens soaked in alcohol. The confiscation occurred on September 15, after officers identified irregularities in a passenger's luggage while using X-ray equipment.
Upon further examination, they discovered three bottles in the suitcase, totaling 1.02 kilograms of insects. The individual claimed that the termite queens were meant for creating medicinal liquor. However, the Beijing customs officers took the necessary steps to confiscate and responsibly dispose of the specimens.
Authorities have cautioned that unquarantined animal specimens can harbor harmful pathogens, including bacteria and parasites. They reiterated that bringing or sending such specimens into the country requires explicit approval from the relevant administrative bodies.
