The PLA Eastern Command Theater released a video to mark the Mid-Autumn Festival, showcasing footage of the PLA's monitoring of foreign vessels transiting the Taiwan Straits in recent years.
In response to a US P-8A anti-submarine patrol aircraft flying through the Taiwan Straits and publicizing the transit, a Chinese military spokesperson stated that the PLA Eastern Theater Command had organized warplanes to follow, monitor, and deal with the US aircraft according to law and regulations.
Naval Senior Captain Li Xi, spokesperson of the Eastern Theater Command, emphasized that troops remain on high alert at all times and are resolutely safeguarding China's national sovereignty as well as regional peace and stability.
The video released by the Eastern Command Theater provides rare footage of the PLA's monitoring of foreign vessels transiting the Taiwan Straits in recent years. It demonstrates the PLA's strong capabilities, firm determination, and unwavering confidence in controlling the Taiwan Straits.
Military experts expressed confidence in the PLA's ability to safeguard peace in the Taiwan Straits and protect national unity in the face of foreign interference. They emphasized that the US's actions are detrimental to stabilizing the bilateral relationship and increase the risk of misjudgments and crisis.
China, while maintaining its efforts to responsibly manage its relations with the US, also has to "prepare for an accidental conflict," according to military expert Lü Xiang.
