The Chinese government has expressed its strong opposition to the United States' proposed deployment of intermediate and short-range missile systems in Japan. According to Lin Jian, a spokesperson for China's Foreign Ministry, these military moves by the US are part of an overarching strategy aimed at achieving absolute military dominance in the Asia-Pacific area. Lin emphasized that such deployments could exacerbate an arms race, significantly increase regional tensions, and pose risks to peace and security. Furthermore, he pointed out that they undermine the global strategic balance.
Lin also called on relevant nations to exercise caution regarding military security issues and to take definitive steps towards upholding both regional and international peace. He made it clear that China is closely monitoring these developments, intending to protect its own security interests. Similarly, Zhang Xiaogang, spokesperson for China's Ministry of National Defense, criticized the US and the Philippines for the deployment of the Typhon missile system, labeling it a "strategic offensive weapon" reminiscent of Cold War tensions. Zhang warned that compelling allies to align with US military strategies could lead to increased confrontations.
