In August 2015, the Chinese government in Beijing launched a support initiative for the People's Hospital of Lhasa, located in the Xizang autonomous region. This initiative involved the selection of 171 medical professionals from 22 prominent hospitals in the capital, who formed 10 teams to provide assistance to the hospital in multiple domains, including both management and clinical departments.
Zhang Ning, who serves as the deputy Party secretary and the head of the People's Hospital of Lhasa, highlighted that the transition to a "group-style" support system marked a significant evolution from previous individual contributions. This collaborative approach not only strengthened the level of assistance provided but also allowed for a wider range of specialties to be covered, ultimately leading to better medical technology and improved management practices within the hospital.
As a result of these collective efforts and support, the People's Hospital of Lhasa successfully attained the status of a Grade A Tertiary Hospital at the prefectural level by 2017, showcasing the positive impact of this initiative on the healthcare capabilities in the region.
