Hainan Braces for Super Typhoon Yagi
The southern Chinese island province of Hainan has been placed on high alert as Super Typhoon Yagi approaches. The provincial disaster management authority upgraded its emergency response to the highest level at 11:30 am Thursday.
Yagi, the 11th typhoon of the year, has intensified into a super typhoon of level 17, with winds reaching speeds of up to 209 kilometers per hour. The provincial meteorological bureau predicts that the typhoon will make landfall on Friday afternoon somewhere between the city of Wenchang in Hainan and Xuwen County in Guangdong Province.
Authorities have taken precautionary measures to minimize the impact of the typhoon. Schools and businesses have been closed, and residents have been advised to stay indoors. Emergency shelters have been opened for those who need to evacuate.
The typhoon is expected to bring heavy rainfall and strong winds to Hainan and surrounding areas. Officials are urging the public to remain vigilant and follow instructions from local authorities.
