Remembering the Victims
two students, Mason Schermerhorn and Christian Angulo, and two teachers, Christina Irimie and Richard Aspinwall. Nine others were injured in the attack.
Christina Irimie, a 53-year-old Romanian immigrant and mathematics teacher, was remembered for her dedication to her students. Witnesses reported her bravely jumping in front of a student to protect them from the shooter. Former students described her as welcoming, kind, and encouraging, with a knack for telling corny jokes.
Richard Aspinwall, a 39-year-old math teacher and assistant football coach, was remembered for his kindness and dedication to his students and family. He leaves behind a wife and two young daughters. Players on the football team described him as a positive influence who pushed them to be their best selves.
Christian Angulo, a 14-year-old student, was described as a sweet and caring young man. His family and friends are devastated by his loss. A GoFundMe campaign set up to support the family has already raised over $40,000.
Mason Schermerhorn, also a 14-year-old student, was remembered as a family-oriented teenager who enjoyed life and had a positive attitude. His family was looking forward to an upcoming vacation to Disney World.
The Apalachee High School community is mourning the loss of these four individuals and working to heal from this tragedy. Our thoughts are with the families and friends of the victims.
