Father of Apalachee High School Shooting Suspect Arrested
The father of Colt Gray, the 18-year-old suspect in the Apalachee High School shooting, has been arrested and charged with multiple offenses, including involuntary manslaughter, second-degree murder, and cruelty to children.
Colin Gray, 54, was taken into custody on Thursday and is being held at the Barrow County Detention Center. The charges against him stem from "knowingly allowing his son to possess a weapon," according to GBI Director Chris Hosey.
The shooting at Apalachee High School in Winder, Georgia, on Wednesday morning left four people dead, including two students and two teachers. Nine others were injured but are expected to make a full recovery.
Police and federal agents are investigating whether the AR-style weapon used in the shooting was purchased by Colin Gray as a gift for his son in December 2023. In May 2022, both father and son were interviewed by the Jackson County Sheriff's office after the FBI received tips about online posts threatening a school shooting. However, investigators lacked sufficient evidence for an arrest at that time.
