Teenager Charged with Attempted Murder of NFL Player Ricky Pearsall
A 17-year-old boy from Tracy, California, has been charged with attempted murder, assault with a semiautomatic rifle, and attempted second-degree robbery in connection with the shooting of NFL player Ricky Pearsall. The incident occurred on Saturday afternoon in San Francisco's Union Square.
Pearsall, a rookie wide receiver for the San Francisco 49ers, was walking to his car after shopping when he was approached by the suspect. The suspect allegedly attempted to rob Pearsall, and a struggle ensued. During the struggle, the suspect's gun discharged, striking Pearsall in the arm and chest. The suspect was also shot by a bullet from his own gun.
Both Pearsall and the suspect were taken to the hospital. Pearsall was released on Sunday and is recovering from his injuries. The suspect is in stable condition.
Police believe the suspect was acting alone and that Pearsall was not targeted because of his status as a football player.
The suspect will appear in juvenile court on Wednesday. District Attorney Brooke Jenkins has stated that a fitness hearing will be held to determine whether the suspect will be tried as an adult.
In a statement, Jenkins said, "I am grateful to the San Francisco Police Department, Fire Department and medical staff at San Francisco General Hospital for their efforts this weekend in response to the shooting at Union Square."
if you come to San Francisco to commit crimes, our officers will arrest you, and our District Attorney will hold you accountable.
