A 14-year-old student at Apalachee High School in Georgia has been identified as the gunman responsible for the tragic shooting that claimed the lives of four people. Colt Gray surrendered to authorities on Wednesday and faces murder charges. He will be tried as an adult.
The rampage unfolded at the school, leaving two students and two teachers dead. Nine others sustained gunshot wounds and were transported to local hospitals for treatment. Among the victims identified are special education teacher David Phenix and 14-year-old student Mason Schermerhorn.
Disturbingly, the FBI had investigated online threats of a school shooting linked to Gray in May 2023. Local police interviewed Gray and his father, who confirmed the presence of hunting guns in their home. However, no arrests were made at the time.
The incident has sparked outrage and grief, with Sheriff Jud Smith condemning it as "evil" and vowing that "hate will not prevail in this county." Vice President Kamala Harris, addressing supporters in New Hampshire, described the shooting as "a senseless tragedy on top of so many senseless tragedies.
