Elon Musk, the world's richest man, has been actively campaigning for the re-election of Donald Trump as the US President in November. He has hosted Trump for an interview on Twitter, amplified posts criticizing Democrats and Democratic nominee Kamala Harris, and spread unfounded conspiracy theories.
Musk's support for Trump is likely motivated by his desire for a "return on his investment." In July, he reportedly promised to donate around $45 million a month to a pro-Trump super political action committee for his re-election bid.
Musk's political views have shifted significantly in recent years. He was once a self-described "politically neutral" individual who donated to candidates from both sides of the aisle. However, he has become increasingly critical of the Biden Administration and has expressed support for a "sensible and centrist" candidate to become US President in 2024.
Musk's first public indication of his Republican leanings came when he said he would endorse Ron DeSantis if he ran for President. He has also become a close ally of Trump, and the two have not ruled out the possibility of Musk serving in a Trump cabinet if he is re-elected.
