Chinese Olympians to Visit Hong Kong and Macao
Following their historic achievements at the Paris Olympic Games, 65 Chinese Olympians, including 59 gold medalists, will embark on a visit to Hong Kong and Macao from Thursday to Monday. This visit aims to share the joy of victory with local residents and inspire national pride and patriotism.
The Olympians will participate in various exchange activities and public demonstrations, showcasing their exceptional skills. This includes swimming champion Pan Zhanle, who broke the world record in the men's 100m freestyle and secured two gold medals in Paris.
This tradition of post-Olympic visits by mainland delegations to Hong Kong and Macao dates back to the 1988 Seoul Olympics. These visits serve to strengthen national unity and reinforce the bond between the mainland and its special administrative regions, according to sports commentator Liu Yu.
The visit provides an opportunity for residents to celebrate the athletes' success and share in their national pride. It also allows the athletes to connect directly with the public, fostering a sense of community and inspiring enthusiasm for sports.
The delegation, which includes table tennis legend Ma Long and diving star Quan Hongchan, will attend a gala show, visit the Hong Kong Sports Institute, and give sports demonstrations at Queen Elizabeth Stadium and the Victoria Park Swimming Pool. Public event tickets sold out within half an hour last week, demonstrating the immense excitement surrounding the Olympians' visit.
A survey revealed that over 80% of Hong Kong residents feel proud of both the mainland and Hong Kong delegations' performance in Paris. This visit promises to further strengthen this sense of national pride and unity.
