Andhra Pradesh Grapples with Floods, Deputy CM Pawan Kalyan Calls for Action
Deputy Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, Pawan Kalyan, has criticized the previous government's handling of flood mitigation efforts in the state. He alleges that the previous administration neglected the Budameru canal stream and failed to prioritize small irrigation projects, contributing to the severity of the current flooding situation.
Kalyan expressed concern over the continuous rainfall that has battered the state for the past four days, leading to floodwaters from neighboring Telangana entering Andhra Pradesh. He highlighted the need for special attention to be given to Vijayawada, which has been significantly impacted by the floods.
To aid in relief and rehabilitation efforts, the government has deployed 262 Panchayati Raj teams. Kalyan also announced a personal contribution of one crore rupees to the Chief Minister's Relief Fund and urged all citizens who care about the state's well-being to assist in these challenging times.
The government has allocated Rs 80 crore for the affected districts and is working on developing a master plan for each city to prevent similar disasters in the future.
Meanwhile, the Indian Air Force (IAF) has stepped up relief operations in the flood-affected areas of Vijayawada district. Six Mi-17 choppers and two Chetak helicopters have been deployed to drop relief material, including 50,000 kg already distributed in the NTR District.
Kalyan extended his deepest condolences to the families of those who lost their lives in the floods and appealed to all political parties to set aside differences and work together in the relief efforts. He emphasized the need for a collective response to overcome this challenging situation and rebuild the affected areas.
