Suhas Yathiraj Aims for More Medals at Future Paralympics
Indian para-shuttler Suhas Yathiraj, despite winning a silver medal at the ongoing Paris Paralympics 2024, expressed his desire to see India win even more medals in future Paralympic Games. He acknowledged the progress India has made in Paralympic sports, stating, "Indian sports have become very vibrant... We are trying our best to win more than 25 medals this time and hope to win more than 50 next time, and by the time India gets ready to host the Paralympics, we will aim for more than 100 medals."
Yathiraj's silver medal came after a tough loss to France's Lucas Mazur in the men's singles SL4 category. He also reflected on his compatriot Sukant Kadam's loss in the same event, stating that both players gave their best but fell short of the podium.
Meanwhile, other Indian para-shuttlers achieved success in the women's singles SU5 category. Thulasimathi Murugesan secured a silver medal after losing to China's Yang Qiu Xia, while Manisha Ramadass clinched a bronze medal with a dominant victory over Denmark's Cathrine Rosengren.
India also celebrated a gold medal win in para-badminton thanks to Nitesh Kumar's victory over Great Britain's Daniel Bethell in the men's singles SL3 category. This marked India's second gold medal at the Paris Paralympics, following shooter Avani Lekhra's gold in the women's 10m air rifle final.
These victories and the determination of athletes like Suhas Yathiraj demonstrate India's growing strength in Paralympic sports and its potential to achieve even greater success in the future.
