A New School Opens in Hengqin for Macao Students

The Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin, Guangdong province, will welcome a new school on Tuesday, specifically designed for students from the Macao Special Administrative Region. This school, named Hengqin School and affiliated with Hou Kong Middle School of Macao, marks a significant milestone as the first mainland school dedicated to Macao students.

Initially, the school will cater to 256 kindergarten and elementary school students. These students primarily come from Macao, with some also hailing from the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region and other regions. The school plans to expand its offerings to include junior and senior high school sections by 2026, providing a comprehensive educational experience for Macao students on the mainland.

This new school signifies the deepening cooperation between Guangdong and Macao, fostering educational opportunities and cultural exchange between the two regions. It also reflects the growing demand for quality education among Macao families seeking options beyond the territory.
