Indian Coast Guard Launches Search and Rescue Operation for Missing Crew Members
On Tuesday, September 3rd, the Indian Coast Guard deployed four ships and two aircraft to locate three missing crew members after their helicopter crashed into the Arabian Sea during a rescue operation.
The incident occurred late Monday evening, approximately 45 kilometers off the coast of Gujarat, India's western state. The coast guard helicopter was attempting to rescue an injured crew member on an Indian-flagged tanker when it was forced to make an emergency hard landing, ultimately ditching into the sea.
"One crew member recovered, the search for the remaining three crew members is in progress," the Indian Coast Guard stated. The wreckage of the helicopter has been located.
This incident follows the recent deployment of the helicopter crew inland to rescue individuals stranded by deadly flash floods caused by heavy monsoon rains in Gujarat. The floods, which swept across a significant portion of the state in late August, claimed the lives of at least 28 people.
