On Tuesday, Mike Weir, the captain of the International Team, announced the selection of fellow Canadians Corey Conners, Taylor Pendrith, and Mackenzie Hughes for this month’s Presidents Cup, which will be held at Royal Montreal. This notable decision makes history as it features three Canadian players on the International Team for the first time ever.
Along with this Canadian trio, Weir has also chosen South Africa's Christiaan Bezuidenhout, South Korea's Kim Si-woo, and Australia's Min Woo Lee to complete the team of 12 players. The match is scheduled to occur from September 26 to September 29, where they will contend against a strong U.S. team known for their success in the Presidents Cup. The U.S. team boasts a record of 12 wins, one loss, and one tie in this competition, with their only defeat in 1998 at Royal Melbourne Golf Club.
Among the six captain’s picks, Hughes and Lee are making their debut in the event, while Kim participated for the first time in 2017. Conners, Pendrith, and Bezuidenhout previously competed in 2022. Pendrith notably celebrated his first PGA Tour victory at The CJ Cup Byron Nelson in 2024, while also achieving five additional top-10 finishes, culminating in his debut at the Tour Championship. Both Conners and Hughes similarly recorded three top-10 finishes this year. Bezuidenhout achieved a runner-up position at The American Express, Kim had two top-10 finishes, and Lee enjoyed extraordinary results at the Cognizant Classic and Rocket Mortgage Classic, both tying for second place.
