In a troubling case from Singapore, Chloe Gan Ci Xuan, a 21-year-old mother, has been charged with the death of her eight-month-old son, Trevor Neo Yu Hin. The child reportedly died due to an unspecified unlawful act that occurred on September 1 at their residence in Hougang. Her husband, 25-year-old Neo Jia Ming, is also facing charges related to the incident for his failure to safeguard their son from Gan's alleged unlawful actions.
During a court hearing conducted via video link, both parents were remanded, with the prosecution requesting they remain in custody for three weeks. The charges levied against them fall under Section 304C, which pertains to the death of a child under 14 in their household. According to a statement from the police, they received alerts regarding the case early on September 2, leading to the subsequent arrest of the parents.
If found guilty of allowing the death of a child in their household, Neo could face a lengthy prison sentence of up to 20 years, along with potential fines or caning. While Gan faces similar penalties for her role, she is exempt from caning due to her gender. The court proceedings for this high-profile case will continue, with their next appearance scheduled for September 24.
