Top seeds Jannik Sinner and Iga Swiatek face challenging U.S. Open quarter-final matches against Daniil Medvedev and Jessica Pegula, respectively. The night session at Arthur Ashe Stadium on Wednesday promises to be entertaining.
The day session begins with Beatriz Haddad Maia aiming for her first victory over unseeded Karolina Muchova, who has won their previous three meetings. Haddad Maia also seeks to become the first Brazilian woman in 56 years to reach the semifinals.
Britain's Jack Draper then takes on Australia's Alex de Minaur, who has recovered from a hip injury and seeks his first Grand Slam semi-final appearance.
Former U.S. Open champion Medvedev and Sinner will clash in a Grand Slam for the third time this year. Their previous encounters suggest another late finish. Sinner defeated Medvedev in the Australian Open final and the Miami Masters semifinals, but Medvedev won a five-set battle at Wimbledon.
"I will try to think more about Wimbledon than the Australian Open," Medvedev said. "But against Jannik, we had some tough matches... in Miami, for example. I feel like in a way we know our game, what we will try to bring on the table."
Medvedev is the only former champion remaining in the draw and holds a 7-5 record against Sinner.
Swiatek, seeking her second U.S. Open title, has not dropped a set en route to the quarter-finals. However, Pegula presents a significant challenge. Pegula has won the Canadian Open and reached the Cincinnati Masters final, demonstrating her strong form.
"Against Jessie, it's never easy," Swiatek said. "It's going to be, for sure, a tough one because she plays (the) flat ball with no spin. You have to really work low on your legs."
Pegula also aims for her first Grand Slam semi-final appearance. However, she will try to forget her last encounter with Swiatek, who defeated her 6-1, 6-0 in the WTA Finals last year.
