Cathay Pacific Inspects A350 Fleet After Engine Failure
Cathay Pacific, a Hong Kong-based airline, announced on Monday that it would be inspecting its entire fleet of Airbus A350 aircraft. This decision follows the discovery of an "engine component failure" on a plane scheduled to fly from Hong Kong to Zurich.
The airline emphasized that this type of component failure had never been encountered on any A350 aircraft worldwide. The inspection, described as a "precautionary measure," began immediately and was expected to be completed within the same day.
During the inspection, Cathay Pacific identified several engine components requiring replacement. Fortunately, spare parts were readily available, and repair work commenced promptly.
The affected aircraft departed from Hong Kong International Airport on Monday but experienced an engine failure shortly after takeoff. According to Flightradar24, a flight data provider, the plane spent approximately 30 minutes dumping fuel over the sea before returning to Hong Kong.
