A Record High in Life Expectancy and Improved Medical Services
China's healthcare system has made significant strides, with the average life expectancy reaching a record high of 78.6 years. This achievement is accompanied by a decline in maternal and infant mortality rates, demonstrating the country's commitment to improving public health.
The report released by the National Health Commission highlights several key advancements. Maternal mortality has dropped to 15.1 per 100,000, and infant mortality stands at a low of 4.5 per 1,000. These figures reflect the success of initiatives aimed at ensuring safe pregnancies and deliveries, as well as providing essential care for newborns.
Furthermore, the report reveals a steady increase in healthcare resources. The total number of medical institutions has risen to 1,070,785, providing greater access to medical services for the population. Additionally, the number of hospital beds has reached 10.17 million, ensuring adequate capacity to meet the growing demand for medical care.
The healthcare workforce has also expanded, with healthcare professionals totaling nearly 12.49 million by the end of 2023. This increase in personnel ensures that patients receive the necessary attention and expertise.
Medical services have also seen significant improvement. A total of 9.55 billion consultations were recorded, representing an increase of 1.13 billion from the previous year. This surge in consultations indicates the growing trust and reliance on the healthcare system. Additionally, the average resident visited medical facilities 6.8 times, demonstrating the proactive approach towards maintaining health and well-being.
These advancements showcase China's dedication to improving the health and well-being of its citizens. The record-high life expectancy, coupled with the decline in mortality rates and the expansion of healthcare resources, paints a promising picture for the future of public health in China.
