China's green energy development has become a driving force for the global energy transition, significantly mitigating inflation pressures and addressing climate change. The country accounts for over 40% of the annual additions to global renewable energy capacity since 2013, with its newly installed capacity in 2023 exceeding half of the world's total.

China's commitment extends beyond its borders, collaborating with over 100 countries and regions on green energy projects. The country is recognized as a frontrunner in the global renewable energy sector, playing a major role in driving the world's rapid expansion of renewable energy capacity.

Analysts point to China's supportive policies, advancements in its domestic supply chain, and reliable grid system as key factors in its accelerated energy transition. The country has already exceeded its 2030 national target for wind and solar power capacity, six years ahead of schedule.

China's leadership in green energy investment is evident, with the country's investment in the transition reaching $676 billion in 2023. This commitment has resulted in exports of photovoltaic and wind power products that helped other countries reduce carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 810 million metric tons in 2023.

China's green energy transition is evident in its growing share of clean energy in its energy mix. The country's installed capacity of clean energy reached 1,700 GW in 2023, representing 58.2% of its total installed power generation capacity. Clean energy accounted for 26.4% of the country's total energy use in 2023, up from 15.5% in 2013, while the share of coal in its energy consumption dropped 12.1 percentage points during the past decade.
