A tragic incident occurred in Southend where a woman succumbed to injuries after being attacked by a dog. Essex Police reported that the ambulance service alerted them to the situation at around 11:30 PM on Monday, and despite being rushed to the Royal London Hospital, the woman died early Wednesday morning.

The dog implicated in this heartbreaking event has been taken into custody, and assessments by a Dog Liaison Officer confirmed that it is not a restricted breed. Law enforcement has stated that they are not seeking any additional suspects related to the attack, and a report will be compiled for the coroner.

In addition, two dogs were removed from the location, but it appears that only one was part of the incident. Detective Superintendent Gary Biddle expressed condolences to the victim's family as the inquiry continues, requesting that their privacy be respected during this difficult time.

This dog attack comes amid a surge in violence in the area, where a man was stabbed, and eight arrests were made following a series of disturbances along the seafront. Police confirmed that they apprehended eight individuals after a spate of violent acts on Tuesday evening and seized several weapons. Enhanced stop and search powers are in effect until the evening, as authorities aim to curb further disorder. Two of those arrested required hospital treatment for injuries, which were not considered life-threatening or life-changing.
