Delta Passenger's Assault Leaves Young Girl Traumatized

A California man's alcohol-fueled rampage on a Delta flight has left a young girl, identified only as "Z.B.," with lasting psychological trauma, according to a civil lawsuit filed by her family. The lawsuit alleges that Delta Airlines failed to intervene during the assault, further exacerbating the victim's suffering.

The horrific incident occurred on June 23, 2022, aboard Delta Air Lines flight 2954 from Los Angeles to Orlando, Florida. Z.B., her mother ("S.S."), and her brother ("J.B.") were traveling to visit relatives when their joyful family trip turned into a nightmare.

Brian Patrick Durning, reeking of alcohol and visibly intoxicated, boarded the aircraft and was served alcohol despite his state. Once the cabin lights dimmed, Durning began to molest Z.B., who was seated two rows away from her family. Z.B.'s selective mutism prevented her from calling for help.

Durning's vile behavior continued throughout the flight. He paced the aisles with his pants unzipped, fondled another passenger's breasts, leered at Z.B., and verbally harassed her family. Delta, despite being aware of the prevalence of inflight sexual assaults, did nothing to intervene.

Upon landing, Durning waited at the gate for Z.B., continuing to harass her. He was arrested shortly after.

The lawsuit alleges that Delta's negligence enabled Durning's criminal behavior. They allowed him to board the flight intoxicated, continued to serve him alcohol, and failed to intervene during the assault. Additionally, they forced Z.B. to remain in the seat where the assault took place, further traumatizing her.

Z.B. now suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder, panic attacks, and depression. Her once bright future has been overshadowed by the trauma of the incident. She has become withdrawn, isolated, and fearful. Her brother, J.B., who has autism and intellectual disabilities, also suffers from severe anxiety and nightmares. Their mother, S.S., experiences constant anxiety and depression, fearing for her children's safety and well-being.

The family is seeking damages for the ongoing trauma caused by the incident. They hope to hold Delta accountable for their negligence and ensure that such a horrific event never happens again.
