Taylor Swift Fans Raise Over £275,000 for Victims
Following the horrific knife attack at a Taylor Swift dance class in Southport, a fundraiser initiated by fans of the singer has raised over £275,000 in just two days. This outpouring of generosity aims to support the families affected by the tragedy, which claimed the lives of three young girls and left seven others in critical care.
The fundraiser, set up by Cristina Jones and Holly Goldring, members of the Taylor Swift UK & EU Facebook Group, has received donations from over 17,000 people. The funds will be directed to Alder Hey Children's Charity, who are working closely with the families.
"We are working with Alder Hey Children’s Hospital to help raise money for the families affected by the tragedy in Southport, and raising funeral funds for the three young [Swifties] who have tragically passed," the Just Giving page states. "Every donation through this link goes directly to the verified charity below, which will in turn help make a difference to those impacted in a time of great sadness."
The attack, which occurred on Monday, July 29th, has left the community reeling. A 17-year-old male from Banks in Lancashire remains in custody, while police continue their investigation.
Taylor Swift expressed her shock and condolences on Instagram, stating, "The horror of yesterday’s attack in Southport is washing over me continuously and I’m just completely in shock… The loss of life and innocence, and the horrendous trauma inflicted on everyone who was there, the families, and first responders."
"These were just little kids at a dance class. I am at a complete loss for how to ever convey my sympathies to these families," she added.
The Just Giving page has surpassed its initial target of £13,000, demonstrating the overwhelming support for the families affected by this senseless tragedy.
