The Ukrainian air force successfully defended against one of Russia's most extensive long-range drone attacks of the war, shooting down all 89 drones launched at Kyiv. The attack primarily targeted Kyiv and the surrounding region, with local authorities confirming the downing of over 40 drones.
The capital's military administration reported no direct hits on civilians or critical infrastructure. However, debris from the drones damaged the roofs, windows, and facades of 13 private residences in the region.
"This is one of the most massive attacks by Shahed-131/136 strike drones," the air force stated.
Approximately 11,500 residents sought shelter in metro stations throughout the night as the drones approached in waves from "all possible directions."
This incident coincides with the Russian military's commencement of a third round of drills involving tactical nuclear weapons. The Russian Defense Ministry announced that the drills will involve units from the central and southern military districts equipped with Iskander short-range missiles.
The drills will simulate the process of receiving nuclear weapons from storage and deploying them to designated launch areas. Their purpose is to maintain troop readiness for combat missions. Tactical nuclear weapons encompass bombs, warheads for short-range missiles, and artillery munitions designed for battlefield use.
