Lovlina Borgohain, following her impressive performance against Norway's Sunniva Hofstad, is receiving encouragement from her father, Tiken Borgohain, as she prepares for the ongoing Paris Olympics 2024. Lovlina, who previously earned a bronze medal in the 69 kg category at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, showcased her skill by winning the women's 75 kg round of 16 bout with a score of 5-0. Tiken expressed his confidence in his daughter's abilities, noting that while her initial victory was promising, the upcoming rounds will demand more effort.
He remarked on the importance of not getting ahead of oneself, emphasizing that Lovlina will give her all during the Olympics and is capable of achieving great results if she performs well. Although Hofstad started strongly with an aggressive style in the first two rounds, Lovlina held firm in her defense and effectively countered her opponent's attacks. As Hofstad improved in her third round, it ultimately did not change the outcome, and Lovlina moved forward to the quarterfinals where she will face Li Qian from the People's Republic of China, whom she lost to in the Asian Games gold match last year.
In contrast, the Indian boxing team faced challenges, with notable defeats in both men's and women's divisions. Jasmine Lamboria, after a tough match against the Philippines' Nesthy Petecio, did not manage to secure a victory, losing 0-5 on points. The bout saw Jasmine trailing from the outset, and despite needing a strong comeback in the final round, she couldn't turn the tide. Additionally, Amit Panghal's journey in the Paris Olympics ended early after he lost in the round of 16 in the men's 51 kg category to Zambia's Patrick Chinyemba, following a tight contest that concluded with a split decision against him.
