The Tiger-Cats Roar Back with a Dominant Win
The Hamilton Tiger-Cats finally seem to be finding their stride, securing their second consecutive victory with a resounding 44-28 win over the Edmonton Elks on Sunday. Quarterback Bo Levi Mitchell led the charge, throwing for 316 yards and five touchdowns, including two to wide receiver Tim White.
"It felt like the first time this year where we've come together on offense, defense, and special teams, and played well on each side," said Ticats head coach Scott Milanovich. "Hopefully that is an example of what we can do when we bring all three phases."
The win marks a significant turnaround for the Tiger-Cats, who started the season with a dismal 0-5 record. "It's just given us confidence," said Mitchell. "That locker room is feeling a lot different than it was three weeks ago."
The Elks, on the other hand, remain winless on the year, falling to 0-7. Interim head coach Jarious Jackson acknowledged the team's struggles, stating, "We have to be better at handling adversity."
The game started with a field goal exchange between the two teams. Edmonton opened the scoring with a 26-yard field goal from Boris Bede, followed by a 45-yard field goal from Hamilton's Marc Liegghio. The Elks regained the lead with a pair of punt singles, but the Ticats responded with a single of their own.
The turning point came in the second quarter when Kobe Jones blocked a punt, recovered by DQ Thomas. This led to a 12-yard touchdown pass from Mitchell to Jevoni Robinson. Hamilton continued their dominance with another touchdown, this time a 66-yard pass from Mitchell to Luther Hakunavanhu.
The onslaught continued in the third quarter with two more touchdowns from Mitchell, one to White and another to Kiondre Smith. Hamilton extended their lead to 41-8 in the fourth quarter with another touchdown pass to White.
Edmonton finally found some success in the fourth quarter with backup quarterback Tre Ford, who threw three touchdowns in less than a quarter of play. However, it was too little too late for the Elks, who fell to their 11th consecutive loss.
The win is a major boost for the Tiger-Cats, who are now 2-5 on the season. They will look to continue their winning ways next week when they face the Montreal Alouettes.
