US and China Diplomats Meet Amid Rising Tensions in Southeast Asia

In the context of escalating regional tensions between the United States and China, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken held discussions with China's top diplomat, Wang Yi, during a meeting in Laos. Blinken's visit comes as China's aggressive posture in the South China Sea, its threats towards Taiwan, and its trade policies have strained relations with Washington. Prior to meeting with Wang Yi on the sidelines of the ASEAN foreign ministers meeting, Blinken urged countries in Southeast Asia to unite in addressing challenges posed by Beijing's escalating and unlawful actions towards the Philippines.
