Paris Olympics Opening Ceremony Tableau Sparks Controversy
The Paris Olympics opening ceremony featured a tableau that evoked Leonardo da Vinci's "The Last Supper," sparking outrage among religious conservatives worldwide. The scene, featuring DJ and LGBTQ+ icon Barbara Butch in a silver headdress, was interpreted as a mockery of Christianity.
Religious leaders, including the French Catholic Church and the Anglican Communion in Egypt, expressed their disapproval. Social media influencer Andrew Tate and his brother Tristan Tate also joined the protest against the Olympics in Bucharest, criticizing the ceremony for mocking Christianity.
The ceremony's artistic director, Thomas Jolly, defended the tableau, stating that it was intended to celebrate diversity and French gastronomy. Paris 2024 spokesperson Anne Descamps apologized for any offense caused, emphasizing the organizers' intention to promote tolerance and inclusion.
Despite the controversy, the organizers maintained that the tableau aimed to convey a message of love and inclusivity.

Intolerant! This shows that the Olympics are not inclusive. They are discriminating against Christians.

Unforgivable! This is a sacrilege against God and his son Jesus Christ. May God have mercy on their souls.
