The Kansas City Royals hosted the Chicago Cubs on Saturday night in a battle between two teams vying for a playoff spot. The Cubs emerged victorious, defeating the Royals by a score of 9-4.
The game got off to a quick start, with the Cubs jumping out to an early lead in the first inning. Seiya Suzuki launched a solo home run over the center field wall, giving the Cubs a 1-0 advantage. The Royals responded in the second inning, with Hunter Renfroe hitting a solo home run of his own to tie the game at 1-1.
The Cubs regained the lead in the third inning, thanks to a triple by Pete Crow-Armstrong and an RBI single by Patrick Wisdom. The Royals once again tied the game in the sixth inning, with a two-run single by Salvador Perez.
The game remained tied until the seventh inning, when the Cubs broke the deadlock with a four-run rally. Wisdom hit a grand slam off of Royals reliever Sam Long, giving the Cubs a 7-4 lead. The Cubs added two more runs in the ninth inning, on RBI singles by David Bote and Nico Hoerner.
The Royals were unable to mount a comeback in the bottom of the ninth, and the Cubs secured the 9-4 victory. The win moved the Cubs to within 2.5 games of the final National League Wild Card spot, while the Royals fell to 5.5 games back.
The Cubs will look to continue their winning ways on Sunday afternoon, when they take on the Royals in the series finale. The Royals will be looking to avoid a series sweep and keep their playoff hopes alive.

Not sure what's worse, the Royals' pitching or their hitting. They're struggling in all aspects of the game.

Another loss for the Royals! 🤦♂️ When will they ever get it together? This team is just frustrating to watch.

Feels like the Royals are taking one step forward and two steps back. Can't seem to string together any wins.
