Chinese Authorities Capture Three Fugitive Drug Traffickers in Myanmar
In a successful operation, the Chinese Ministry of Public Security, in collaboration with law enforcement agencies in Myanmar, captured and extradited three fugitive drug traffickers who had been wanted for years in northern Myanmar. The operation was a significant achievement in international law enforcement cooperation between the two countries.
The three fugitives, identified as Zhang Anlong, Ma Wenxiang, and Yang Jinmei, were key members of transnational drug trafficking networks. They had been smuggling and trafficking drugs into China on a large scale for many years and were involved in multiple major drug cases investigated by police in various provinces. The total amount of drugs involved in their activities exceeded 2,000 kilograms.
On December 28, 2023, the Chinese Ministry of Public Security offered rewards for the arrest of Zhang and 10 other major drug trafficking fugitives. Through international law enforcement cooperation, Yang was captured in Yangon, Myanmar on July 9, and Zhang and Ma were captured in Lashio, Myanmar on July 13.
As of now, six out of the 10 major drug trafficking fugitives wanted by public security authorities have been captured and brought to justice. Public security authorities have vowed to continue pursuing fugitives abroad and spare no effort in capturing drug-related fugitives. They also called on the public to actively report and provide tip-offs to help maintain social peace and stability.

Hoping these arrests will deter other would-be traffickers in the future.

This is just a PR stunt. Drug trafficking will continue despite these arrests.

Why should we celebrate the capture of just three individuals? The network is much larger!
