Between Wednesday and Friday, northern China is expecting severe rainstorms, mainly impacting Beijing, Tianjin, and the Hebei Province. The China Meteorological Administration has warned that areas could experience intense downpours with some regions likely to face heavy rainfall, prompting local authorities to issue multiple warnings and take precautionary measures for public safety.

Beijing has declared an orange alert due to the predicted rainstorm, anticipating considerable rainfall across the entire city. According to the Beijing Meteorological Service, most parts of the city will see hourly rainfall exceeding 70 mm, especially from late Wednesday afternoon to Thursday evening, with certain mountainous districts experiencing rainfall surpassing 100 mm in just a few hours. In outlying districts such as Miyun and Huairou, precipitation could exceed 150 mm in 24 hours, raising the risk of secondary disasters including flash floods and mudslides.

Tianjin’s Meteorological Service has also issued a yellow alert as heavy to torrential rain is expected in many areas. The northwestern part of Tianjin could see rainfall between 80 and 150 mm from Wednesday night through Thursday. Additionally, strong winds and thunder are anticipated in conjunction with the rain.

Hebei Province is also preparing for significant rainfall, expecting heavy downpours particularly in eastern regions like Shijiazhuang. In response to the situation, Hebei authorities have enacted a Level-III emergency response and issued alerts for potential flash floods. The regional water resources department advises vigilance for flash floods from Wednesday to Thursday, urging residents and local officials to remain alert and proactive.

To protect the safety of residents, various authorities, including those in Beijing and Hebei, have issued warnings to avoid flood-prone areas and to suspend outdoor activities related to water. Schools may also temporarily halt classes, while local governments encourage flexible work hours during the adverse weather conditions. It is crucial for cities to actively monitor rainfall and prepare for timely disaster responses, including relocating residents if necessary.
