Recently, the China Coast Guard (CCG) conducted a maritime rescue drill in the South China Sea, specifically in the waters adjacent to Huangyan Dao, also known as Huangyan Island. This exercise was significant, as analysts noted that it underscores China's sovereignty and jurisdiction over the island. The operation involved several Chinese fishing vessels that were active in the vicinity, with the CCG taking necessary measures to ensure the safety of the personnel aboard these boats.

During the drill, a simulated scenario was enacted where individuals fell overboard, prompting the CCG Ship Chuanshan to spring into action. A small rescue boat was deployed, successfully retrieving a mock victim from the sea and returning them to the mothership, where medical personnel provided immediate first aid. For the first time, official media outlets also shared aerial footage of Huangyan Dao during early summer, marking an ongoing commitment by the CCG to maintain a strong presence in the area.

The exercise reflects an acknowledgment of the serious need for maritime safety, with experts affirming that it is entirely routine for the CCG to conduct such drills around the Chinese island. The CCG is prepared to offer assistance to anyone in need, whether Chinese fishermen or foreigners. It is important to mention that while Philippine fishing boats often operate near Huangyan Dao under a special agreement with China, they face restrictions in specific areas to prevent environmental damage.

Recently, however, there have been reports of unauthorized landings by Filipino fishermen, who not only fished but engaged in disrespectful behavior and pollution practices on the island. This situation has heightened tensions, and China's recent publicity efforts around Huangyan Dao serve to assert its claims and authority over the territory amidst escalating regional disputes.
