Maharashtra CM Announces Aid for Hit-and-Run Victim, Orders Drunk Driving Crackdown
Maharashtra CM Announces Financial Assistance for Worli Hit-and-Run Victim's Family
Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde announced financial assistance of Rs 10 lakh from the Chief Minister's Relief Fund to the family of Kaveri Nakhawa, the victim of the Worli hit-and-run case. This announcement came after Congress legislator Aslam Shaikh demanded financial aid for the family, citing their lack of support from the government.
Mr. Shinde, during his visit to the Mumbai Coastal Road, expressed his commitment to taking action against the culprits involved in the hit-and-run incident. He also emphasized the need to address the issue of late-night pubs and bars, stating that similar orders were given in the Pune hit-and-run case where two individuals lost their lives.
"We firmly stand with the victim's family. They are our family. Whatever help they need, be it legal or financial, they will be provided. The government will provide financial aid of Rs 10 lakh to the victim's family," he declared.
Mr. Shinde further directed the Mumbai Police Commissioner to prioritize the prevention of drunk driving in Mumbai. He emphasized the importance of strict action against individuals driving under the influence of alcohol, including increased inspections during nights and weekends, and the imposition of fines.
Shiv Sena leader Rajesh Shah's son, Mihir Shah, who was absconding for 60 hours after the accident, has been arrested by the police from Palghar. He has admitted to driving the car at the time of the accident on July 7th.
