Former Zimbabwe Cricketer Andy Flower Welcomes Gautam Gambhir's Appointment as India's Head Coach
Former Zimbabwe cricketer and current Royal Challengers Bangalore head coach Andy Flower has expressed his support for Gautam Gambhir's appointment as the head coach of the Indian men's national cricket team. Flower, who has worked with Gambhir in the Indian Premier League, believes that Gambhir's strong opinions, clear views on the game, and decisiveness will make him successful in his new role.
Flower praised Gambhir's passion for Indian cricket and his desire to represent the country. He believes that Gambhir's experience as a player and mentor will be valuable assets for the team.
"He is quite a man, Gautam Gambhir, I really enjoyed working with him," Flower said. "He has got strong opinions, he has got strong clear views on the game. He is very decisive, he is a very proud Indian, he loves Indian cricket and his position, representing Indian cricket. I think it is a good appointment and I think he is going to be successful."
Flower's comments were echoed by former Indian cricketer Abhinav Mukund, who believes that Gambhir is the right man for the job. Mukund highlighted Gambhir's ability to inspire young players and his success in leading the Kolkata Knight Riders to an IPL title in 2024.
"He is very astute on the field we've seen him as a captain but now more as a coach brought the team to success after 10 years. I am sure he will be thinking I want to take this legacy forward. Won a world cup, let us win a lot more in the next two or three years," said Mukund.
Gambhir's appointment comes after Rahul Dravid's tenure as head coach ended following India's victory in the T20 World Cup 2024. The team's success under Dravid's leadership has set a high bar for Gambhir, who will be looking to build on the team's recent achievements.
