Gypsy Rose Blanchard Announces Pregnancy, Hopes to Break Cycle of Abuse

Gypsy Rose Blanchard, who gained notoriety for orchestrating the murder of her abusive mother, Dee Dee, announced on Tuesday that she is pregnant and hopes to be the mother she never had.

In a YouTube video, Blanchard shared that her baby is due in January, just over a year after her release from prison. "I just want to be a good mother for my child," she said, her voice trembling. "I want to be everything my mother wasn't."

Blanchard's story captured national attention after it was revealed that her mother, Dee Dee, had Munchausen syndrome by proxy, a psychological disorder where caregivers fabricate or exaggerate illness in their dependents. Dee Dee subjected Gypsy to unnecessary medical procedures and forced her to use a wheelchair and feeding tube, essentially keeping her prisoner.

When Gypsy turned 23, she orchestrated the murder of her mother with the help of her then-boyfriend, Nicholas Godejohn. While Godejohn is serving a life sentence, Gypsy received a lesser sentence due to the abuse she endured.

Since her release, Gypsy has dedicated herself to healing and forgiveness. She has spoken out about her experience and hopes to raise awareness about Munchausen syndrome by proxy.

Now, with the news of her pregnancy, Gypsy is looking towards the future. She acknowledges that some may question her readiness for motherhood, but she remains optimistic. "It's an amazing feeling when your whole world shifts and suddenly it's not about you," she said. "It's about protecting and loving this tiny life."

Gypsy is committed to creating a loving and supportive environment for her child, one that she never had. She hopes to break the cycle of abuse and provide the love and care she was denied.

"Everything that has ever happened to me in my life suddenly doesn’t matter because it all led me to be who I am today and it all led me to this moment right here, right now," she said. "And that’s a blessing.”
