Sailor tried to access Biden's health records from database, U.S. Navy says

A junior Navy sailor made three attempts to access President Biden's medical records in February from a military medical database, as confirmed by the U.S. Navy to CBS News. The sailor, who remains unidentified by the Navy, serves in the Navy's hospital corps at Fort Belvoir in Virginia, a significant medical facility. Despite accessing the Genesis Medical Health System, which is the military medical system's database, the sailor did not correctly retrieve Biden's information, according to a U.S. official familiar with the situation.

The breach was reported to the Naval Criminal Investigative Service after a co-worker of the sailor noticed the unauthorized access, leading to an investigation that concluded in late April. The sailor acknowledged looking up the president's name for personal curiosity, but it was determined that the president's medical record was never reached as it is restricted within the system. The White House was promptly informed about the incident by the Defense Department, although the exact timing of when this information was relayed was not disclosed.

Following this breach attempt, President Biden underwent his annual physical at Walter Reed National Medical Center in Maryland. The physical, which took place two days after the investigation began, revealed that the president was deemed "fit for duty" by his physician, Kevin O'Connor. This annual physical, which lasted approximately two and a half hours, identified no new concerns beyond a new diagnosis of sleep apnea, reassuring the public of his ability to execute his responsibilities effectively. Additionally, the breach coincided with a report by special counsel Robert Hur regarding classified document handling by the president, sparking debates about Biden's capacity to serve another term in office and calls for mental competency tests from political figures like Nikki Haley.
