Netherlands Ready for England Clash Despite Travel Disruption
Despite a travel disruption that forced them to abandon their train journey and fly to Dortmund, the Netherlands are well-rested and confident ahead of their Euro 2020 semi-final clash against England.
The Dutch were initially scheduled to travel by train from their base in Wolfsburg, but the service was cancelled due to a blockage on the route. Instead, they opted for a 30-minute flight to Dortmund, arriving at their hotel four hours later than planned.
"It was not a problem," said Netherlands coach Ronald Koeman. "We had a good rest this afternoon, and we can have a good rest tonight."
Koeman believes the match against England will be a close contest. "There is really not much difference between the two teams," he said. "It's really 50-50 in my opinion. But we will need the perfect game to win."
He acknowledged England's individual qualities but emphasized the strength of both teams. "It will be a good fight," he predicted.
The Netherlands have no injury concerns and are physically strong despite their quick turnaround from the quarter-final win over Turkey. Koeman believes England's extra-time effort against Switzerland could be a factor in the later stages of the match.
"We are sharp, we are focused, and we are looking forward to playing a good match against them," he said.
With an estimated 80,000 Dutch fans expected in Dortmund, Koeman hopes the support will boost their chances. "Our country is close by," he said. "Let's hope we can make them really happy by winning and going to the final on Sunday.
