Defending Wimbledon champion Carlos Alcaraz secured his place in the semi-finals with a thrilling comeback victory over American Tommy Paul. Despite not playing his best tennis, Alcaraz found solutions to overcome his opponent, winning the match 5-7, 6-4, 6-2, 6-2.
The clash between Alcaraz and Paul produced some breathtaking shot-making on Court One. Alcaraz, who was still a child when American Andy Roddick won the U.S. Open title in 2003, expressed his happiness at reaching the semi-finals and playing at a high level.
Meanwhile, Jannik Sinner's bid for success at the grasscourt Grand Slam was cut short after a five-set defeat to fifth seed Daniil Medvedev. Sinner, who had recently triumphed at the Australian Open, struggled with illness during the match and was unable to prevent Medvedev from claiming a 6-7(7), 6-4, 7-6(4), 2-6, 6-3 victory.
In the women's draw, Jasmine Paolini dominated American 19th seed Emma Navarro, winning their match 6-2, 6-1 in just 58 minutes. Paolini will now face Croatian Donna Vekic in the semi-finals. Vekic, who had considered quitting tennis after knee surgery in 2021, reached her first Grand Slam semi-final with a victory over qualifier Lulu Sun.
