China and Belarus have recently deepened their cooperation across multiple fields, with a focus on strengthening their partnership as Belarus joins the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) as its 10th member state. This agreement underscores the commitment of the two nations to expand their collaboration and work together on global issues. Foreign Minister Wang Yi of China and his Belarusian counterpart, Maksim Ryzhenkov, held discussions in Beijing, affirming their support for each other's core interests and major concerns while rejecting unilateral hegemony.

During the meeting, Wang emphasized China's readiness to work with all parties to uphold the principles of the Shanghai Spirit, aiming to contribute to global peace, stability, and development. Ryzhenkov, in his first official visit to a foreign country since taking office, expressed Belarus' high regard for its relationship with China and pledged full support for China in its role as the rotating presidency of the SCO. Both countries also discussed their joint efforts in advancing multilateral initiatives proposed by China and reaffirmed their commitment to uphold multilateralism in addressing global challenges.

In addition to bilateral cooperation, China and Belarus also discussed their shared views on issues concerning the Global South, underlining the importance of enhancing unity and collaboration among developing countries to safeguard their legitimate interests. The officials also addressed the Ukraine crisis, with Ryzhenkov praising the joint six-point consensus between China and Brazil for a political settlement, highlighting its significance in promoting peace. Wang reiterated China's commitment to playing a constructive role in de-escalating the crisis and facilitating dialogue among all parties involved.
