Tesco has taken immediate action to recall two types of its own-brand chocolate bars, Nutty Nougat Caramel and Dreamy Caramel Chocolate Bars Multipacks, due to concerns that they could contain peanuts, despite not being listed on the product labels. The company highlighted that this oversight could potentially harm individuals with peanut allergies, leading to allergic reactions ranging from hives to severe anaphylactic shock, which could be fatal without prompt medical attention. The Food Standards Agency has urged customers who have purchased these products not to consume them and to return them to Tesco stores for a full refund to mitigate any health risks.
In response to the issue, Tesco has contacted allergy support organizations and issued recall notices to inform customers about the situation surrounding the mislabeling of the chocolate bars. The recall specifically impacts batches of the Nutty Nougat Caramel Chocolate Bars Multipack with a best before date of 28 February 2025, as well as the Dreamy Caramel Chocolate Bars Multipack with best before dates of 31 January 2025 and 28 February 2025. The Food Standards Agency reiterated the importance of not consuming these products if purchased and emphasized the need for individuals with peanut allergies to be cautious, advising them to contact Tesco Customer Services for further assistance or inquiries at 0800 505 555.
