The Shiga Prefectural Police have taken into custody Kohei Iitsuka, a 35-year-old man from Otsu city, on suspicion of killing his probation officer, Hiroshi Shinjo, aged 60. Iitsuka, who had been on probation after being convicted of a previous convenience store robbery, is being accused of using a knife to fatally stab Shinjo multiple times in the upper body. The incident is said to have occurred between the evening of May 24 and the afternoon of May 26 at Shinjo's residence in the city.
According to authorities, Iitsuka was arrested for the murder on a Saturday following the discovery of Shinjo's body in his home. The suspect was subsequently brought before prosecutors on the following Monday for further legal proceedings.
