Prince Harry is reportedly "deeply upset" by King Charles' plans to relocate the disgraced Prince Andrew to Frogmore Cottage. Harry and his wife Meghan Markle resided at the Windsor property during their time as working royals, only officially leaving last year. They invested heavily in the four-bedroom property, undertaking a renovation costing £2.4 million. However, their current home in Montecito is valued at a staggering £12 million.
The Duke of York currently resides at Royal Lodge, a nearby property in Windsor. He is reluctant to downsize from the home he has occupied for over two decades. Royal author Tom Quinn revealed to The Mirror that Harry had hoped to eventually re-establish Frogmore Cottage as his UK base. He will be deeply disturbed by the prospect of his uncle moving in, especially as King Charles insists that Andrew cannot remain at Royal Lodge, the 30-room mansion on the Windsor estate.
Prince Andrew is no longer a working royal, having stepped down following a controversial Newsnight interview with Emily Maitlis in 2019. Questions arose regarding his connections to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein and accusations of sexual assault by Virginia Giuffre. The case was settled out of court, with Andrew vehemently denying the allegations.
While Andrew was considered the late Queen Elizabeth's favorite son, Charles' ascension to the throne has changed his standing. Mr. Quinn explained that Andrew is furious about being forced to leave Royal Lodge despite his pleas to his brother. The dispute has been ongoing, with Andrew's confidence leading him to believe he could resist the move. However, Charles' reign has shifted the power dynamic.
Relocating Andrew to Frogmore would also address another issue for the King, as Mr. Quinn pointed out. It would send a clear message to Harry that, as a private citizen and no longer a working royal, he will not be allowed back to Frogmore. It would also signal to Andrew that his actions have resulted in a diminished lifestyle. Ultimately, it would free up a suitable residence for William and Kate, who Charles believes deserve a grand home befitting their status as heir and heir apparent. Charles is determined that Royal Lodge, with its size and grandeur, is the only appropriate residence on the Windsor estate for his heir.
